Forty candles to be switched off for a solid and irresistible trio like BassDrumBone, with Mark Helias, Gerry Hemingway and Ray Anderson.

They celebrate with a double disc with Jason Moran and Joe Lovano as a guest, a logical choice given the adventurous nature of both musicians, even in a context of continuity with tradition.

The music of the trio nourishes the basic elements of African-American language, rhythm, timbre, strong interplay: in this sense the synthesis, performed by musicians who in the decades have shared research and stages with explorers also very daring as Anthony Braxton or Wadada Leo Smith, notes a happy dialogue between what is “inside” and what is “out,” sound tension is always guaranteed by solid geometric bases.

What can we say more about Anderson, Helias and Hemingway in 2017 that has not been said yet? Maybe nothing, but it’s worth remembering how much the freshness of improvised practice (the last two tracks of the disc, live, give it some exciting moments) is a matter of aptitude even before age.

The Danish guitarist Jacob Bro, former collaborator of Paul Bley, Chris Cheek, Andrew D’Angelo, Bill Frisell, George Garzone, Lee Konitz, Paul Motian, Oscar Noriega, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Chris Speed, Ben Street, Mark Turner, David Virelles , and Kenny Wheeler continues to perfect his trio project with his strengths on melody, sound, space, texture stratifications and interaction.

The partnership between Bro and Thomas Morgan (Bro calls it “my musical companion”) has become something extraordinary, and often the guitarist and the bassist develop improvised ideas in parallel.

There is also a historical wealth in Joey Baron‘s choice as a new band drummer, because Bro met Morgan when the bass player was playing in the Baron band a decade ago … Joey Baron plunges into the detail of music with obvious pleasure.

Jakob Bro Trio‘s approach to melody recognizes Motian’s influence, and both Bro and Morgan have played in his latest ensembles.

Enrico Rava appeared on the jazz scene in the mid-1960s, becoming one of the best European jazz soloists.

Among his discography there are Quartet (1978), Rava’s opera Va (1993), Easy Living (2004), Tati (2005), The Words and the Days (2007), New York Days (2009), Tribe ) and On the Dance Flor (2012).

He collaborated with musicians such as Stefano Bollani, Joe Henderson, John Abercrombie, Pat Metheny, Daniel Humair, Michel Petrucciani, Charlie Mariano, Joe Lovano, Albert Mangelsdorff, Dino Saluzzi, Richard Galliano, Marital Solal, Steve Lacy, Mark Tuner, John Scotfield and more.

He has been voted Best Musician by the Musica Jazz magazine several times. Named “Knight of Arts and Letters” by the French Minister of Culture, in 2020 he also received the prestigious “Jazzpar Prize” in Copenhagen.

In January 2004 he performed for a week in the prestigious Blue Note of New York, still laughing at the Town Hall and then at Birdland (2006, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013). In this concert Enrico Rava, who is always distinguished for his talent scout skill, meets with young pianist Makiko Hirabayashi, resident in Denmark.

Makiko Hirabayashi began studying the piano at the age of four and the violin at the age of nine. He then moved to Boston where she studied and graduated at the Berkelee Colelge of Musicd and took up a career that helped her collaboration with Bob Rockwell, Marilyn Mazur among others.

The Jazz Music Department of the Conservatory Nicolò Piccinni of Bari, directed by Roberto Ottaviano from about 30 years, and which includes a range of exceptional teachers, promotes, among other activities, a great profile of hospitality.

This year is the turn of the great trumpeter Flavio Boltro who, in the company of a combo of musicians, will play original compositions.

Boltro joined at the age of 25 years the Lingomania project, with Roberto Gatto on drums, Furlo Di Casti on double bass, Maurizio Giammarco on sax, Umberto Fiorentino on guitar.

He collaborates with Steve Grossman, with whom he performs in international events quartets with Cedar Walton, Billy Higgins and David Williams at rhythm, and with Clifford Jordan and Jimmy Cobb.

Another important formation is the original trio with Manu Roche on drums and Furio Di Castri on double bass, then expanded to quartet with the arrival of saxophonist Joe Lovano.

In 1984 he was the best talent for the magazine JAICA Music. In 1994 Laurent Cugny chose Flavio Boltro and Stefano Di Battista as trumpeter and saxophonist of the JUN, shortly before leaving Boltro enter the sextet of Michel Petrucciani. In 1997 he is in quintet with Stefano di Battista, Eric Legnini on piano, Benjamin Henocq on drums and Rosario Bonaccorso on bass.

He collaborated with Dado Moroni, Andrea Pozza, Rosario Giuliani, Giovanni Tommaso, Roberto Gatto, Fabio Zeppetella, Billy Cobham, Dario Chiazzolino and many more.

For “Imagine” organized by the musical association “Nel Gioco del Jazz” event scheduled for Tuesday, March 7 at 21.00 at Teatro Forma of Bari with “Astrolabio”, the new album by the saxophonist Roberto Ottaviano. On stage as well as Ottaviano will perform Michel Godard on the tuba, Gianluigi Trovesi clarinet and Glenn Ferris on trombone. Ottaviano, as the sailors used the astrolabe for their adventurous sailing routes, sail through the seas of this album “astrolabio” expressive heading to distant places, full of mystery.

“Astrolabio” is a quartet of only brass instruments that have particular timbre that is linked to an old experience of the same Ottaviano: a sextet of brass instruments of the eighties called Six Mobiles.

The Tzigana Orchestra was founded in 1969 on the initiative of Maestro Antal Szalai in collaboration with other musicians from various orchestras of Budapest.

The intent of the group is to propose and promote the orchestral repertoire of gypsy music: because in it there are passages of national music of the time of the reform, the traditional music tsardas and arrangements of popular songs.

Since their first performances the Tzigana Orchestra has obtained many awards and achievements both from critics and the public, quickly becoming the most popular orchestra of his nation.

Annually performs more than one hundred concerts in Hungary and with its activities held tour in forty countries (United States, China, Japan, India, Canada, South America, etc.) By taking part in important festivals and has also been applauded and appreciated in several European cities such as Paris, Vienna, Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam, Madrid.

It plays very often both for Hungarian television and for European broadcasters, and in this regard it’s important to remember the great success of the Tzigana Orchestra in TV RAIUNO “Mirrors of Trieste” program broadcasted live via satellite around the world in 1991.

He has produced several discs and CDs with songs for orchestra alone and others with the participation of singers such Dahmar Koller, Nicolai Gedda, Annelise Rohjemberger, Peter Minich in the most famous operettas.

The magical voice of Sheila Jordan, one of the most important, intense and fine jazz singers in circulation, in Tour.

After settling in New York in the early ’50s, she married Parker’s pianist, Duke Jordan, and studied with Charles Mingus and Lennie Tristano. In the early ’60s she record her first album “Portrait of Sheila” for the famous jazz label “Blue Note”. Later she participated in the recording of the work “Other View” with George Russell that contains a famous 10-minute version of “You are my sunshine”, which made she popular.

Sheila Jordan is and remains one of the most creative jazz singers of all time. Sheila is one of the few “vocalist” who can improvise in real time of the texts with logical sentences, often rhymed, in addition to being a superb “scat” singer and an exciting performer of “ballads”.

She will be accompanied by the Trio, composed of renowned experts Italian musicians. The project took shape during the Seminario Musicale of Nuoro where Sheila Jordan, Roberto Cipelli and Attilio Zanchi did a concert together who had very sucess. Between the two musicians and the singer has created a magical tune that gave birth to the desire to work together. With this line were carried out already three Italian tours that have been very successful and have been recorded three CDs recorded during these tours “Sheila’s back in town”, “Sheila Jordan & ESP Trio” and the last “Straight ahead” with Paolo Fresu as a guest.

During the concert will be performed standards, bop tunes, songs with lyrics written by Sheila Jordan.
