The Danish guitarist Jacob Bro, former collaborator of Paul Bley, Chris Cheek, Andrew D’Angelo, Bill Frisell, George Garzone, Lee Konitz, Paul Motian, Oscar Noriega, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Chris Speed, Ben Street, Mark Turner, David Virelles , and Kenny Wheeler continues to perfect his trio project with his strengths on melody, sound, space, texture stratifications and interaction.

The partnership between Bro and Thomas Morgan (Bro calls it “my musical companion”) has become something extraordinary, and often the guitarist and the bassist develop improvised ideas in parallel.

Enrico Rava appeared on the jazz scene in the mid-1960s, becoming one of the best European jazz soloists.

Among his discography there are Quartet (1978), Rava’s opera Va (1993), Easy Living (2004), Tati (2005), The Words and the Days (2007), New York Days (2009), Tribe ) and On the Dance Flor (2012).

He collaborated with musicians such as Stefano Bollani, Joe Henderson, John Abercrombie, Pat Metheny, Daniel Humair, Michel Petrucciani, Charlie Mariano, Joe Lovano, Albert Mangelsdorff, Dino Saluzzi, Richard Galliano, Marital Solal, Steve Lacy, Mark Tuner, John Scotfield and more.

He has been voted Best Musician by the Musica Jazz magazine several times. Named “Knight of Arts and Letters” by the French Minister of Culture, in 2020 he also received the prestigious “Jazzpar Prize” in Copenhagen.

In January 2004 he performed for a week in the prestigious Blue Note of New York, still laughing at the Town Hall and then at Birdland (2006, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013). In this concert Enrico Rava, who is always distinguished for his talent scout skill, meets with young pianist Makiko Hirabayashi, resident in Denmark.

Makiko Hirabayashi began studying the piano at the age of four and the violin at the age of nine. He then moved to Boston where she studied and graduated at the Berkelee Colelge of Musicd and took up a career that helped her collaboration with Bob Rockwell, Marilyn Mazur among others.

On Wednesday, June 14, 2017, the Botanical Garden Museum of the University of Bari “Aldo Moro” (located at the University Campus Ernesto Quagliariello, via Orabona 4 – Bari) will have an extraordinary opening with free entrance event from 17.00 to 21.30 : BOTANICAL GARDENS & CONSERVATION.

The event is foreseen at 18.30 to present the “Collection of significant species conservation” of the Botanical Garden Museum, developed in recent years in the activities of the Museum aimed to the conservation of the plant biodiversity and in particular the species of the rare Apulian Flora , Threatened with extinction on the regional or even national territory, endemic or anyway of phytogeographic importance.

This collection is currently made up of about 50 taxa, almost entirely derived from the germination of seeds harvested in nature and stored at the Germo Plasma Bank of the Botanical Garden Museum (BG-MOBB), ie without taking plants from natural environments . Many of the taxa in the collection have been subjected to ex situ and in situ conservation interventions, so they have been characterized and studied, also for developing specific propagation protocols.

In the evening, at 20.00, the “ORTI BOTANICI, ITALIAN EXCELLENCES” will be presented in the open spaces of the Botanical Garden by Marina Clauser and Pietro Pavone, Thema Edizioni. In the volume, realized by the National Association of New Directions in collaboration with the Italian Botanic Society, there is also a card dedicated to the Botanical Garden Museum of the University of Bari and references to the collection of significant species conservation.

At the presentation of the volume there will be the Authorities of the University of Bari “Aldo Moro”. The UNESCO – World Heritage Commission has decreed the inclusion of the Umbra Forest of Gargano in the World Heritage Site.

The best way to close the candidature of the Foresta Umbra – which add more value to the Gargano area after the recognition for the Sant’Angelo Sanctuary as UNESCO World Heritage Site – within the’ Longobardorum ‘paths.

The “forests” of the Foresta Umbra in the Gargano enter the European network of forests of beech wood, which already belong to those of Slovakia, Ukraine and Germany; This is a ‘serial acknowledgment’, since UNESCO has for some time longed for more “plural” recognitions than for individual destinations or goods.

The ecological and structural integrity of the Umbra Forest is a rare and unique example in Europe, for their majestic appearance and high biodiversity. Beech reaches here 350 years of age and a height of 45 meters.

The natural value of the Umbra Forest is one of the symbols of the Gargano National Park, to which the whole community is deeply tied. Being a UNESCO site will further enhance the attractiveness of the Gargano that remains one of the best tourist attraction point in Apulia.
