On Wednesday, June 14, 2017, the Botanical Garden Museum of the University of Bari “Aldo Moro” (located at the University Campus Ernesto Quagliariello, via Orabona 4 – Bari) will have an extraordinary opening with free entrance event from 17.00 to 21.30 : BOTANICAL GARDENS & CONSERVATION.

The event is foreseen at 18.30 to present the “Collection of significant species conservation” of the Botanical Garden Museum, developed in recent years in the activities of the Museum aimed to the conservation of the plant biodiversity and in particular the species of the rare Apulian Flora , Threatened with extinction on the regional or even national territory, endemic or anyway of phytogeographic importance.

This collection is currently made up of about 50 taxa, almost entirely derived from the germination of seeds harvested in nature and stored at the Germo Plasma Bank of the Botanical Garden Museum (BG-MOBB), ie without taking plants from natural environments . Many of the taxa in the collection have been subjected to ex situ and in situ conservation interventions, so they have been characterized and studied, also for developing specific propagation protocols.

In the evening, at 20.00, the “ORTI BOTANICI, ITALIAN EXCELLENCES” will be presented in the open spaces of the Botanical Garden by Marina Clauser and Pietro Pavone, Thema Edizioni. In the volume, realized by the National Association of New Directions in collaboration with the Italian Botanic Society, there is also a card dedicated to the Botanical Garden Museum of the University of Bari and references to the collection of significant species conservation.

At the presentation of the volume there will be the Authorities of the University of Bari “Aldo Moro”. There will be present the Magnificent Rector Prof. Antonio Felice Uricchio, the General Director Federico Gallo, the Director of the Directorate for the Coordination of the Departments Dr. Emilio Miccolis and one of the curators of the volume, prof. For “Imagine” organized by the musical association “Nel Gioco del Jazz” event scheduled for Tuesday, March 7 at 21.00 at Teatro Forma of Bari with “Astrolabio”, the new album by the saxophonist Roberto Ottaviano. On stage as well as Ottaviano will perform Michel Godard on the tuba, Gianluigi Trovesi clarinet and Glenn Ferris on trombone. Ottaviano, as the sailors used the astrolabe for their adventurous sailing routes, sail through the seas of this album “astrolabio” expressive heading to distant places, full of mystery.

“Astrolabio” is a quartet of only brass instruments that have particular timbre that is linked to an old experience of the same Ottaviano: a sextet of brass instruments of the eighties called Six Mobiles.

The Valle d’Itria welcome the visitor with unmatched olive tree groves, trees born from a red soil that perfume and makes the landscape around a succession of wonderful chromatic effects.

Also known as the Trulli’s Valley, the Valle d’Itria is collocated between the Apulian provinces of Bari, Brindisi and Taranto (Puglia, Italy) and includes many towns including Alberobello, Carovigno, Castellana Grotte, Ceglie Messapica, Cisternino, Fasano, Locorotondo, Martina Franca, Walnuts, Ostuni, Putignano, San Michele Salentino, San Vito dei Normanni and Villa Castelli.

Perhaps due to the white of the buildings or due to the vegetation that frames them, every town and every village of the valley, is wrapped in a magical, almost fairy-tale atmosphere.

In the heart of the Itria Valley, Alberobello is a must-place to visit with its trulli, a UNESCO site listed in the World Heritage List in 1996. It is impossible not to be fascinated by a walk along the streets of Monti and Aja Piccola.

In the valley there is not only Alberobello. The country sourrounding is scattered about beautiful villages with typical buildings: just think about Cisternino, which rises in this area called “Murgia of the Trulli” counted, together with the nearby Locorotondo, among the most beautiful villages in Italy. Almond from Toritto is the fruit of the almond tree, Amygdalus communis L., and is obtained from the native cultivar ‘Filippo Ceo’ also called ‘Aminue’ (at least 70%), ‘Antonio De Vito’ (up to 20%) and other cultivars (up to 10%).

The almond Filippo Cea is characterized by a fruit in shell from the weight of 5 g, the seed from an average weight of 1.6 g with a percentage of seeds double or twin around 30%. For its strong pastiness is indicated for the preparation of sweets to which confers intense and pleasant aroma and for the preparation of almond milk.

The almonds are well preserved inside their shells; if shelled, should be kept as much as possible away from light, air, heat.
