MATTEO SALVATORE: POETRY IN MUSIC.
Matteo Salvatore was a singer-songwriter, born in Apricena (Foggia, Puglia, Italy). The famous writer Italo Calvino said: “We still have to invent Matteo Salvatore’s words”.
Songwriter and singer of popular music, as well as interpreter of traditional songs of the Gargano and Puglia, he spent his childhood in the poorness that was afflicting his homeland and the whole of Italy after the First World War.
Spaces and human figures still seem to have risen from the beautiful rhymes of Matteo Salvatore’s songs, incisive as well as delicate. They are set between the panoramas of the Gargano and the Foggia’s countryside.
Visiting the places that inspired this artist’s poetics, visiting these places with his songs in your ears, is an amazing multisensory experience. You can start right from the village where he was born: Apricena (link: goo.gl/maps)
You feel a dizzying tension, between the sense of idyllic conviviality ispired by the Tavoliere delle Puglie – the second largest plain in Italy after the Po Valley – and the wild nature of the Gargano – the spur of Italy which from his top 1000 meters high it dips dizzily and spectacularly into the Adriatic Sea.
Experience the fascination of a nature that becomes poetry, as you immerse yourself in the local culture. You feel like you know this place already , and part of those who were born here.
The beauty leaves you breathless and leads you to image how such a touching spectacle of nature inspired a great artist; get inspired you too.
