Dr Giovanni Chimienti, a marine biologist of the University of Bari and National Geographic explorer, leads a scientific expedition in search of a hidden natural treasure: an unexplored forest of black coral in the depths of the Tremiti Islands Archipelago.
This rare variety of coral, already known by the ancient Greeks, grows at great depths, more than 60 meters below sea level.
Nearby the Tremiti Islands, an entire forest has never been found: such a discovery would open many scenarios of scientific research and conservation of this area, which needs to be protected above all from illegal fishing.
It is up to each of us to do our part to preserve the wonders that surround us, whether they are easily accessible or hidden in the deep darkness of the sea.
